Rare and iconic, the second album of arranger, composer, and singer Piry Reis was released independently and privately in 1980. Entitled “Piry Reis,” the album features a unique folk and baroque sound with hints of psychedelic and sometimes progressive elements, placing it in the lineage of artists like Hareton Salvaninni, Carlos Walker, and Milton Nascimento.
Standing out for its musical virtuosity, the album features a special collaboration with Egberto Gismonti, who brings his brilliance to enrich the album with a blend of classical and popular music. Gismonti’s contribution adds complex and sophisticated layers to the songs, elevating the album to a level of artistic and musical excellence.
The minimalistic and captivating album cover reflects the depth of the lyrics and the complexity of the melodies in the main tracks of the album, which are “No Risco Do Relâmpago” and “Mais Clara,” the latter being a collaboration with Egberto. With its independent production and diverse influences, “Piry Reis” stands out as an authorial masterpiece that echoes the rich and deep tradition of Brazilian popular music.
